Detailed information

History

In 1714, Heinrich Karl Freiherr von Bibra acquired a building called Haus zur Grünen Linde (House by the Green Linden) at No. 11 in Bamberg, on the steep and narrow Untere Karolinenstrasse leading to the majestic cathedral grounds.

In 1716 Heinrich Karl von Bibra received a loan from the Prince Bishop's Court to rebuild the front of the property "for the ornamentation of the town" in the same year. In 1716, the building was thus rebuilt according to a design by Johann Dientzenhofer with rich interior stucco decoration of all rooms by the Bamberg court stucco artist Johann Jakob Vogel.

Architecture

The Bibra Palace is a three-storey building made of sandstone blocks in strict Baroque forms with a gabled roof and a columned portal with statues of the standing Immaculata between the seated Flora and Ceres with a splayed shield with the von Bibra-von Eyb alliance coat of arms, which refers to the marriage of Heinrich Karl von Bibra to Maria Johanna Theresia, née von Eyb, above the magnificent entrance portal. Under the coat of arms is the year 1716.

The sculptures probably come from the workshop of Leonhard Gollwitzer.

In 1783 the rear building was separated, now with the address of Schranne 9 and 10.

In 1829 the two ground floor windows to the left and right of the portal were extended to the door.

Interior decoration

Všechny místnosti barokní budovy jsou zdobeny bohatou štukovou výzdobou od významného bamberského dvorního štukatéra Johanna Jakoba Vogela.
