Caminata Balthasar

Italian-German architect, collaborator and brother-in-law of the Dientzenhofer brothers

Balthasar Caminata, also known as Balthasar Battista Caminada (*1643 in Umbria; † February 17, 1725 in Bamberg), was an Italian-German architect from the family of Leonardo Caminata.

In 1679, he married the daughter of master butcher Hager from Waldsassen. Her sister Marie Elisabeth Hager married Georg Dientzenhofer in 1682, and another sister, Anna Marie Hager, married Leonhard Dientzenhofer in 1685.

Balthasar Caminata worked mainly as a foreman on the Dientzenhofer brothers' construction projects, and later also as an independent builder. Together with Leonhard Dientzenhofer's family, he later settled in Bamberg.

Works:
· Waldsassen Monastery (1679) – collaboration with Leonhard Dientzenhofer on construction work
· Ebrach Monastery (1686) – participation in the first phase of the construction project in collaboration with Leonhard Dientzenhofer
· Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Memmelsdorf (1707) – management of construction work as Baumeister according to plans by Leonhard Dientzenhofer
· Torhaus (gate), Rattelsdorf (1718) – minor project attributed to Caminata
